Dr. Chad Mathis Joins API as Distinguished Fellow

Birmingham, Ala. – Today (May 25th, 2021), API President and CEO Caleb Crosby announced the addition of Dr. Chad Mathis, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and former senior advisor in the Trump Administration at the US Department of Health and Human Services, to the API Team as Distinguished Fellow.

“As a practicing surgeon, Dr. Mathis saw first-hand many of the obstacles in our healthcare system to efficient and effective care,” Crosby said. “In his role at API, Dr. Mathis will advocate for common-sense policy solutions to these obstacles and ways Alabama can promote high-quality health care well into the future.”

In recent years, Dr. Mathis served in leadership roles for multiple organizations fighting for conservative healthcare policies. During the pandemic, he joined the Trump Administration and the US Department of Health and Human Services as a senior advisor to aid in the prevention of Covid-19 spread in nursing homes and to ensure high-quality care through regulatory reform.

“Though the worst of the pandemic is behind us, Alabama’s healthcare system continues to face challenges,” Dr. Mathis said. “I am convinced that conservative policy solutions give us the best chance at overcoming these challenges and enabling our healthcare system to meet our state’s ever-changing needs. I am excited to join API as we work to make Alabama the best state for healthcare in the nation.”

Founded in 1989, API is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit research and educational organization dedicated to strengthening free enterprise, defending limited government, and championing strong families.
