Marijuana Legalization and Expansion

Enact legislation to repeal the Alabama Medical marijuana law, protect children from its harmful effects and an automatically repeal the law if the FDA approves medicinal marijuana

The legislature legalized medical marijuana during the 2021 legislative session. The established medical marijuana structure provides a way for the state to bring in millions of dollars and completely ignores free market and limited government principles. Marijuana remains illegal under federal law and has not been approved by the FDA for medicinal use. The taxation of medicinal marijuana also marks the first time that Alabama has imposed a sales tax on pharmaceuticals. The legislature should repeal the state’s existing medical marijuana law. Marijuana is not approved by the FDA and is illegal under federal law. If medicinal marijuana receives FDA approval in the future, it should be treated the same as any other prescription drug. All attempts to legalize recreational use of marijuana should be rejected.
